Rules & Scoring

Every Monday at midnight UTC a new set of weekly challenges goes live across Whoopal's six disciplines: Recovery, Strain, Sleep, HRV, Activity, and Consistency. Your score for each discipline is derived directly from the same metric WHOOP already calculates — no manual logging required. Once you sign in with WHOOP, your data is synced automatically and your ranking updates in real time throughout the week.

···

Scoring rules vary by discipline. Recovery and HRV challenges rank participants by their average score across all days of the challenge week — consistency matters as much as peak performance. Strain challenges use cumulative strain load: every workout counts, so active days compound. Sleep challenges score on average sleep performance percentage. Activity challenges tally total active calories. The Consistency discipline is unique: it counts how many days in the week you close all three WHOOP rings (recovery ≥ 33 %, strain ≥ 1, sleep ≥ 1 cycle), awarding a flat point per qualifying day — seven perfect days earns a perfect score.

···

Ties are broken in this order: (1) higher peak single-day score during the week, (2) earlier date that peak was achieved, (3) alphabetical username. Challenges are purely opt-in — you can participate in as many or as few disciplines as you like each week. Past challenge results are archived and visible to everyone, but individual daily breakdowns are only shown to the account owner. Whoopal never shares your raw WHOOP data with other participants; leaderboards display only display names and final aggregated scores.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

01How do WHOOP challenges on Whoopal work?
Each week, Whoopal runs up to six simultaneous competitions — one per WHOOP discipline (Recovery, Strain, Sleep, HRV, Activity, Consistency). Challenges open every Monday at midnight UTC and close the following Sunday at 23:59 UTC. Your WHOOP data is pulled live from your connected account, scored automatically, and posted to the leaderboard in real time. Winners are announced and results archived every Monday morning.
02Is it free to join Whoopal challenges?
Yes — 100% free. There are no entry fees, subscriptions, or premium tiers required to compete. All you need is a WHOOP device and an active WHOOP subscription so you can sign in with WHOOP. The only paid item on Whoopal is the optional WHOOP 4.0-to-5.0/MG band adapter in the shop — and that's entirely separate from competing.
03How is my score calculated for each discipline?
Recovery & HRV: weekly average of your daily scores (0–100). Sleep: weekly average of your WHOOP sleep performance percentage. Strain: cumulative weekly strain load (0–21 scale, all activities summed). Activity: total active calories burned across the week. Consistency: number of days (0–7) you hit all three WHOOP targets — recovery ≥ 33 %, at least one strain activity, and at least one sleep cycle logged. Every metric comes straight from your WHOOP data — Whoopal adds no extra calculations.
04What counts as a perfect day in the Consistency challenge, and how are ties broken?
A perfect day (sometimes called a green day) in the Consistency challenge requires three things logged in WHOOP on the same calendar day: a recovery score of 33 or above, at least one recorded strain activity, and at least one complete sleep session. For ties in any discipline, Whoopal first compares peak single-day scores during the week; if still equal, the participant who achieved that peak earlier in the week ranks higher; if still tied, usernames are sorted alphabetically.
05Who can see my WHOOP data on Whoopal?
Other participants only ever see your chosen display name and your aggregated challenge score for the week — nothing more. Whoopal never exposes raw daily metrics, HRV readings, sleep stages, or any personal health detail to third parties or other users. Your synced data is processed only to compute leaderboard rankings. You can delete your data and account at any time, which permanently removes all stored records.
